Brake Installation & Balance Bar Setup

All too often we hear and see about cars with brakes that don't work as they should / need to. It seems a lot of race cars have brakes that feel worse, and are less consistent than an O.E. setup. This is bad. We're racing, things should be better. Esspecially brakes.

We need not discuss the reasons for a consisent reliable brake pedal and system, so we'll skip that part and go directly on to what we can do to make your brakes work.

There are a few different things that happen to a brake system that cause it to be less than satisfactory. The first thing that happens is the brake pedal gets mushy during a stint. Usually this is due to brake fluid boiling. The pedal can also be firm, however not slow the car down. Alternatively, we can have a pedal that is sometimes firm and consistent, and sometimes, not there at all. Or perhaps we have a pedal that always feels spongy, too stiff or stiff and then spongy at the end.

Well let me tell you how the pedal should feel. FIRM. And when you press on it, the car should SLOW DOWN. Always. And forever. Like love.

Now the reasons for the above mentioned issues are, brake fade, pad knockback, brake system compliance (not enough bracing, mounts are flexing etc), improper master cylinder sizing. Incorrect pedal mounting position/motion ratio, Improper balance bar setup is another one that will give a consistent brake balance output and feel.
