Racing - 2006

This year SG-Motorsport is competing regionally in Ontario with its S14. Ontario Touring GT is a competitive series with some fantastic cars and drivers. Speed World Challenge cars as well as factory built race cars are not uncommon in this serires, and to be racing against some top built cars really teaches you quickly about race car preperation.

Most of the races are held at Mosport, with a few races at Shannonville. There are a couple of endurance races spanning from 1hour to 3hours so needless to say a well built car is crucial to suceed in this series.

The points structure is setup in such a manner so that a consistant reliable car that enters all the races will dominate, so unless we make all of the races this season we will not have any chance of winning the championship. To give you an idea of what we mean first place for a race recieves 100 points and second place recieves 95, followed by 3rd recieving 90. Just imagine trying to recover points if you missed a race!

The Race Car

The race car is SG's very own 1997 Nissan 240sx. This year it is producing around 320whp at 1bar of boost, so it really isn't that much faster than the rest of the pack. Sure with a bit more boost it would be one of the fastest cars down the straight. But that's not the way we want to win races, and its not good for car reliability either. 320whp is great for shannonville, however a little more power would be optimal for Mosport. The car is still running on D2 suspension, most likely the area that is holding the car back the most. The car bounces around a lot and causes the car to slide when normally it would maintain grip.

The car at this point needs a larger fuel capacity to last 1hour at mosport without refueling and needs larger rear brakes to stop overheating. Rear brake line failure is not fun! A rear wing is also in the works. Be sure to check back for updates!

End Of Season Last Word

Wow. What a season. I mean really what can I say. What i've learnt this season, the friends we've made, the fun i've had, heck even the luck i've had. It's all been fantastic. I just wish it wasn't so expensive, but honestly racing has put an enitrely new direction on my life.

We did much better than I was hoping to do this season, with 3 wins and plenty of podiums and fastest laps the car worked much better than expected! Unfortunatly we were pushing the ex street car a little too hard and had a few things fail here and there, which caused us to miss points in a few too many races. Still though, 3rd place in the championship for a first season isn't too shabby at all. I'm proud of how we did and I just want to thank everyone that helped us out through this season, we couldn't have done it without you guys!

Next year we plan to have the car prepped a bit better so that the car should have no problem finishing races, even in 40 degree heat. We've learnt that pushing a stock SR over 12psi will cause excessive coolant passage pressure, so an aftermarket head gasket is a must. Stock cams really hold the car back, so some head work is in the happenings for next season! 1.28's here we come! Or 26's? ....
